During the event that is known as “National Night Out,” members of the community will have the opportunity to mix and mingle with officers of law enforcement as well as other community resources in an atmosphere that is lighthearted and relaxed back. Tuesday night was the night that the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) officers who are assigned to District 2 went out for a night on the town.
Eliel Contreras, a member of the Metropolitan Police Department, was quoted as saying that “It allows the community an opportunity to get to know cops and officers get a chance to meet the people.” “It gives the residents in the neighborhood a chance to get to know the officers, and the officers have a chance to meet the people” (MPD). It is a scenario in which all parties involved end up in a better position.
In addition, it is anticipated that there will be a reduction in the general rate of criminal activity in the neighborhood as a direct result of the community events that are being hosted due of the fact that they are being hosted.
Melody Johnson, who was there with her family and commented on the event, stated that “activities like this keep youngsters off the streets, and it provides parents peace of mind to know that the children are secure.” Melody was there with her family at the time. Additionally there to lend their support was Melody’s family. [There are likely to be further citations for this] “Kids are more likely to have a positive outlook on life when they are made aware that there are constructive activities that they can participate in within the community in addition to indulging in hobbies that are destructive,”
According to the statistics that have been made public by the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), the number of homicides that have been committed in District 2 during this time period has more than doubled when compared to the same time period in the same year at the same point in time. As of this point in 2018, there have already been 17 people taken from this world as a direct result of killings that have taken place within this neighborhood.
According to Patrick Pajot, the captain of District 2, who stated that the police force as a whole is unable to combat the issue of violent crime on its own, there is a need for more support. [Further citation…] “We are going to be placing our trust on the assistance that each and every one of you will be able to supply. It is very important not to forget that the neighborhood is a part of it. Along with the faith-based organizations that are active in this region, the community partners that we work with here in this region are an additional component of it. If we all work together as members of a team and as members of a large family, I have no doubt that we will be able to make a significant contribution toward bringing the overall rate of violent crime down. This is something that I have complete faith that we will be able to do.”
